Working in OrthopaedicsOrthopaedics

If you need an artificial limb, a back brace or shoes to fit feet of different sizes, you will not find what you need at the mall. Our Orthopaedic department, located at our Provincial Services office, can help you get what you require. The Council has been providing Saskatchewan people with orthopaedic services for 50 years. Both our facility and staff are nationally certified.

We offer service to hospitals, rehabilitation centres and individuals across the province. Many orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic appliances are funded for Saskatchewan residents by Saskatchewan Health. Talk to our receptionist about cost coverage.

For those unfamiliar with orthopaedic terms, see here for some definitions.

Retail items
The Council offers a variety of retail products to meet specific patient needs such as custom manufactured inserts (arch supports) for foot comfort. We also carry some hard-to-find items such as baby shoes that will work with leg braces. We recently introduced a line of therapeutic footwear to meet the needs of individuals who have swollen or sensitive feet, diabetic patients, and others who require protection against friction and pressure.

Call ahead
In most cases, you must have a prescription or requisition from your doctor, occupational therapist or physical therapist, and an appointment is required for fitting. You can buy some off-the-shelf items directly. Please call us beforehand to see if you need a requisition, if funding is available for the item you need, and to book an appointment. Our number is (306) 374-4400.
