The Saskatchewan Abilities Council works with people of varying abilities to enhance their independence and participation in the community through vocational, rehabilitation and recreational services.


The Prince Albert Special Needs Equipment Depot is located at 1205 1st Avenue East. The program, except for retail items, is funded by Saskatchewan Health and is operated under contract by the Saskatchewan Abilities Council. You must have a valid Saskatchewan Health Services number to use this program. Persons covered by Saskatchewan Income Plan, Supplementary Health and children covered by Family Health Benefits may receive retail items at no cost with a requisition from an authorized healthcare professional.

Professional Requisitions
Qualified professionals include physiatrists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and registered nurses employed by a regional health authority as a case manager.

Equipment for Loan
Equipment that is available on loan based on a requisition by an authorized healthcare professional includes: wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, transfer tub seats, hospital beds, rails and mattresses, over the bed tables, Hoyer patient lifts, Versa Helper trapezes, Sask-a-poles, wheelchair trays, pressure relief cushions, alternating pressure point mattresses and pumps, Jobst pumps and sleeves, tub lifts, McLaren Buggies, and Convaid Cruisers.

Levels of requisitioning authority differ by the profession. These are detailed in the Equipment Manual for Mobility Aids and Aids to Daily Living. To get a copy, contact Special Needs Equipment Saskatoon at (306) 664-6646 in Saskatoon, or e-mail sne.saskatoon@abilitiescouncil.sk.ca.

Personal Purchases
Some special needs equipment can be purchased by anyone, without a referral from a health professional. These include items such as sheepskins, crutches, tub seats, canes, helping hand reachers and more. A full listing of special needs products is available here. To order, please download this order form (PDF format), and send it with your payment to the branch nearest you. Prices effective August 1, 2008.

Payment: Please read carefully
Payment can be made by cash, cheque, money order, Visa or Mastercard. Your payment must accompany your order. Please include shipping costs. For items from $1 to $50 in value, add $7.35. For items $50 and over, add $13.65.

Refunds
If equipment is returned within six months in resale able condition, we will refund part of the purchase price, prorated for the time you have used it. Up to two months, half of the price is refundable, up to four months, one third, and up to six months, one quarter. The Saskatchewan Abilities Council reserves the right to determine if an item is in resale able condition.

Repair and Maintenance Services
If your special needs equipment needs repair, there's a good chance we can fix it. Our technicians will repair our loaned equipment at no cost to you. There may be a shipping charge, depending on your location.

Please note that we are unable to offer repairs to scooters.

Appointments are required for all repairs. Call us at 922-0225 to make an appointment.
