Saskatoon, SK – On Janaury 14, 2010 Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer presented a Spirit Award for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Saskatoon Branch.
“The province applauds the Saskatchewan Abilities Council for developing an impressive range of quality programs and services that respond to the needs of children and adults with disabilities,” Harpauer said. “The Council is being recognized, in particular, for its supported employment services for people with disabilities, such as the Employment Plus Project in Saskatoon.”
Joyce Phillips, Regional Director, Saskatoon Branch is pleased to be recognized by the Ministry of Social Services. “Our supported employment services provide people with disabilities the opportunity to gain meaningful employment.” explains Phillips. “This Spirit Award is dedicated to the staff at the Saskatoon Branch for their hard work and commitment to our clients. It is because of them that the Saskatchewan Abilities Council is receiving this award.”
The Spirit Award honours CBOs that deliver programs and services on behalf of the Ministry of Social Services or its agency, the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. The award celebrates the contributions of these human-services CBOs to the well-being of Saskatchewan people.
The Saskatchewan Abilities Council works with people of varying abilities to enhance their independence and participation in the community through vocational, rehabilitation and recreational services.
