Message from the President
Having been involved with the Council for most of my life as a client, employee, Board member and President, I can truly say that I believe in the work the Council does. In this Annual Report, you will find stories of success, both big and small; each story adds a bit to the Council’s rich mosaic.
Board and staff members believe in the power of employment – the significance of finding meaningful and satisfying work is well documented. Each year, many clients find their niche in the labour market with the assistance of the Council’s supported employment services.
Believing in the unique strengths of each individual is an integral part of the Council’s culture. Clients find new ways to explore the world, whether it is through working with seeds and the soil or simply learning to believe in their own skills and abilities. Helping clients maintain their passion for work and leisure activities is the reason Rehabilitation Services exists. Seeing clients succeed with the help of an assistive device makes it all worthwhile. Recreational programs add the fun dimension through programs like Camp Easter Seal, Life Enrichment, and Summer Fun.
Over the past year I have been pleased to serve with an amazing group on the Board. Thank you to all of you for your time and dedication. Looking forward, I am excited to be part of the governance review, an initiative endorsed in the most recent strategic plan.
Thank you to the Council’s staff members and volunteers; your efforts are appreciated each and every day. Thank you as well to the donors, sponsors, and government agencies that support the Council; you have shown that you believe. As we move into 2012, our common purpose unites us – enriching futures through abilities.
Tom Spence, President
