Potential Unlocked
ENCOURAGEMENT, RESPECT, AND SUPPORT from the staff members at Partners in Employment in Moose Jaw helped Tim England unlock his potential and create a new reality for himself. Prior to forming a relationship with Partners, Tim had limited employment experience and was unsure of what type of work was right for him. He felt unemployable because of his disability and he was frustrated.
In January 2009, Tim looked to Partners in Employment to help him find a job. A vocational evaluation was the first step and it uncovered a natural speed and dexterity in tasks using his hands. Over the next several months, Tim participated in employment preparation programming.
To leverage Tim’s skills with his hands, a specific position was created for him at Boh’s Cycle and Sporting Goods. It was a six-week work experience placement assembling and repairing bicycles. As Tim learned the job and became more comfortable within the new work environment, he offered to take on more responsibilities such as building shelves and special repair projects. At the end of six-weeks, Tim earned himself a permanent part-time position at Boh’s.
Boh turned Tim’s attention to skate sharpening. Tim can sharpen 100 skates in a day with ease and proficiency. This has earned him the nickname, ‘the Saturday Guy.’ Tim continues to increase his value to Boh’s company with his initiative and skill in other areas of the business.
Tim says that the resources and support of Partners in Employment were instrumental to help him focus on what he could do. He has achieved success and is a shining example of what is possible when others help us believe.
